'EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES' DISTRACTED DRIVING AND RAILROAD SAFETY PROGRAMS
Distracted driving and pedestrian safety programs have now been expanded to include the dangers of prescribed medications, illicit drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana – medical or recreational – and cell phone use during or around vehicle operation.
As an added factor, the SMART Train railway through Sonoma County has increased the need to educate the public on railroad track safety and the rules of the road. The PPF proudly received two grants in 2018: one from Union Pacific Foundation for railroad safety, and one from Speedway Children’s Charity-Sonoma Raceway for the Every Fifteen Minutes distracted driving high school program.
Both educational outreach projects include a safety video for the public shown on social media sites and “before the movie” at theaters, school safety activities or accident simulations on campuses, and educational resources for the community and student populations.
